Whoever said that money doesn’t bring about clearly lacks ambition! Admittedly as fun as winning the lottery would be I feel like I would still live a pretty modest life and give a good chunk to various charities such as the Trevor Project. With that said I would definitely splurge and buy some fun toys such as the ‘Overpowered’ PC listed below (and just think this is just ONE
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 4.2 GHz 16-Core Processor
CPU FAN: NZXT Kraken Z73 RGB
MOBO: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE EATX
RAM: 2x….G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB
STORAGE 1: 4x….Intel D3-S4510 7.68 TB
STORAGE 2: 4x….Seagate IronWolf Pro 20 TB
STORAGE 3: 4x….Corsair MP600 PRO XT 8 TB
GPU 1: Gigabyte AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE RTX 4090 24GB
GPU 2: MSI GAMING TRIO CLASSIC Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB
CASE: Corsair 7000D AIRFLOW
PSU: Silverstone HELA 2050W
The CPU, Mobo, CPU fan makes sense as I’m a massive fan of AMD, NZXT, and MSI. Gotta have my fanboyism show somewhere.
128GB of RAM is insane! I’m one of those weird people who don’t bookmark tabs in Chrome and have four hundred-plus tabs open. JK…but I virtualize my workspace. Natively I’m a Linux person, but sometimes I need to boot up a hypervisor for Windows or Apple. Clearly, with more ram, it means I can allocate more ram to more VMS without decreased performance.
Why all the storage? It comes back to virilization. All three sets would be configured in RAID with the first set serving to host large files that need to be accessed frequently and quickly. IE: large video projects and operating systems. The second batch would be allocated to NAS (Network Attached Storage), and the last would serve as the main operating system with games and other applications installed. of course it would be broken down more.
No one needs two video cards with 24 GB of vRAM. You’re absolutely right. It’s even weird using AMD and Nvidia, but the madness comes back to virtual machines. Nvidia does not play nice with virtualization. There are mods that exist, but there’s no guarantee that it would work. AMD’s Radeon Card would pass through the VMS for a streamlined experience while the Intel GPC is detached meaning I could allocate those 24Gb of VRAM to other things; such as gaming under Linux when available.
The case is the odd thing since there are so many cases that I absolutely love. It’s not my first choice, but for a case designed for airflow, it makes sense.
